| | Very sorry to have made this purchase...which is unusual since I've had nothing else but good purchases from Amazon. My problems started with the instructions provided by Amazon on how to buy this phone and service plan and keep my old cell number. The instructions were incorrect and misleading. However, I took it upon myself to verify the process by calling ATT before completing the sale. Sure enough, ATT said it would be seamless. NO! ATT was wrong, and I never got to keep my old number. I went from a corporate account to a personal account and the two departments at ATT don't allow cross information. ATT is so lost in their own red tape. The second problem was the phone. Overall I like the phone, the color is a deep dark red and shows very nicely. However, the screen cracked after one week of usage. Battery life is good, maybe borderline excellent. Phone tools software is recommended if you want to try and sync to Outlook for email and contacts and tasks, but you have to pay extra for the software.
| | AT& T has been great for me. | |
| | I have been a customer with AT&T now for almost 8 years. I have had really no big issues with them. Lately they have been extremely nice and helpful on the phone. I like the fact that there are rollover minutes. I have had minimal dropped calls and get signal pretty much wherever I go. I have used the service in both NJ and now in MO and both have been great. I have no plans of switching carriers anytime soon.
| | Cingular sucks whatever it is called! | |
| | This is my second contract with Cingular/now-AT&T. When I had Cingular 4 years ago I was very dissatisfied with my connection in NYC. Then I went to T-Mobile and it was perfectly fine. Now I went to AT&T for a good deal on the phone and I regret! Besides all that agressive advertisement the truth is AT&T sucks! I feel upset when my friends talk on their phones in-doors, in evevator, etc. and I have to go outside and search for signal. I tried different AT&T phones - the overall quality of the connection is low!
| | Why all the complaining? It's not bad at all by me !!! | |
| | I suppose I've been lucky--I live in the NYC metropolitan area so my roaming charges are nil. However, I still have to watch my minutes. I get 450 anytime minutes; and AT&T allows me 5,000 off-peak minutes during weekday nights from 9:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. and all day Saturday and Sunday. It's important to note that weekday evenings factor into the 5,000 total off peak minutes time. They're not truly "free!"
I use my phone mostly for the times when I travel and I cannot get to a public pay phone. My cell phone then comes in mighty handy; and it sure is cleaner than using any old public pay phone, too! My phone takes messages, allows me different ring tones, reveals the last few numbers dialed, the last several missed calls--and accessing my voicemail is a breeze. It's easy to add new contacts, too. This AT&T plan also gives you a lengthy instruction booklet with easy to understand, real English directions; and you get your choice between an online bill and a regular bill. AT&T also let you use your credit card for automatic monthly payments.
One feature I like very much is the rollover minutes. If you use less than your allotted 450 minutes during the month, whatever is left over gets carried over to the next month so you don't lose your minutes. This policy remains in effect for the most recent twelve months, however--after that they cut off the thirteenth month and only add on the most recent twelfth month, and so on. Careful with that last point!
Sure, roaming charges may remain an issue; so I am taking off one star to make this a four star review. Nevertheless, this plan from AT&T remains an excellent choice for people like me who don't use their cell phones too often. You get the perk of a lower monthly charge in exchange for a plan that is geared toward persons who don't use their phones many times every day.
I highly recommend this plan for people like me who need cell phones primarily for travel and emergencies. If you need a cell phone much more often, or if roaming charges are an issue for you in your area, then I would suggest you find another plan.

| | What's AT&T like? Lots of dropped calls, constant "spend more" text messages to your phone, lousy customer service and being nickel-and-dimed for every feature, like voice-dial. Ever wonder why 20% of customers churn to other plans every two years? Compared to Europe, all cellular service bites it, thanks to these ridiculous contracts. No motivation to retain customers. AT&T is just the biggest, far from the best.
