|  | The Collectors is a way better sequel than the first book in this series: the Camel Club. Basically because of one major factor: The story is definitely more realistic. Baldacci asked too much of his readers in this first book by continuously implementing new figures in the political and intelligence business and ending up with an exaggerated doomsday scenario, that definitely made the story in the end too implausible and therefore uninteresting.
He definitely didn't make this mistake here. The storyline is very complexe and gives a lot of hints for any possible ending, but you never really catch the whole storyline till the very end. That very sophisticated idea has still a realistic approach, that the reader can follow by any time, and gives the book an incredible enjoyable character. And the open ending of the second storyline in this book, makes you become absolutely interested in the next sequel.
Hopefully, the U.S. authorities ready carefully his books, so they will always be ahead of what potential traitors might have in their minds how to operate their businesses. ;-)
| | | What an incredible book. Once you start reading it, you won't be able to set it down. I even got yelled at by my boss for reading the book on company time. I've read it 4 times and each time is like the first time. There is alot of information to process so get ready be blown away. It's awsome. Also, if you missed reading Tino Georgiou's masterpiece--The Fates, go and read it.
| | | Am Anfang des Buches hat man den Eindruck, man hat zwei Bücher gekauft. Zwei Stories in einem Buch. Zum einen ein sehr informativer Einblick in die Welt der Trikser und Betrüger, zum anderen die zweite Geschichte mit dem "Camel Club", wobei insbesondere die zweite Geschichte als Fortsetzung sehr gelungen ist. Die Charaktere sind zwar sehr stereotypisch, jeder hat seine spezielle Aufgabe mit dem ultimativen Anführer Stone... Jedoch sind insbesondere Milton und Shaw mit ihren Macken sehr amüsant. Wie die erste Geschichte ausgeht in der Welt der Gauner wird man wohl erst in einem nächsten Buch lesen ...

In the process of reviewing the books, Caleb stumbles onto an unexpected volume that raises astonishing questions that are not easily answered. One mystery leads to another when a visit to Jonathan DeHaven's home turns up a telescope trained at an unexpected scene. There's also a photograph of DeHaven with a most attractive young woman. Who could she be?
Separately, we meet the brilliant and energetic con-woman, Annabelle Conroy, who wants millions from . . . and revenge against a casino operator, Jerry Bagger, who once murdered her mother. The book develops that story line until the two stories begin to intertwine. The result is dynamite for adding spice, danger and adventure to the book.
By the end of the book, you'll be excited about the many possibilities that this book opens up for what should be an excellent and ever-improving series.
Mr. Baldacci does an excellent job of developing characters, tossing out intriguing plot developments, mixing in lots of action, and challenging your assumptions about what an intelligent thriller can be like.
It's refreshing, fun and rewarding for those who like original stories with a heart and a strong plot.
