Editorial Reviews:
With 11 consistent studio records under their belt, it is unlikely that the Tragically Hip would do anything to sonically surprise their fans. Truth is, the group has never swayed from their agenda of creating lyrically intelligent, melodic classic rock for the 21st century. World Container provides exactly that and accomplishes it with a vibrancy that proves that a band who has been together for 23 years can still create affecting and entertaining music for the Canadian masses. Most of the noteworthy changes are subtle in nature; guitarist Paul Langois seems to have brought in sounds from a few of his heroes into the studio, from the Police-affected reggae in "The Lonely End of the Rink" to the Edge-esque resonance of "Luv(sic)." The band has also incorporated piano into a few numbers, most noticeably during "Pretend," a rare love-ballad. For a group who has spent decades avoiding songs that overtly follow the topic of love, the track is quite beautiful, and frontman Gord Downie's vocals soar within it. Romance aside, Downie is up to his usual tricks, yowling and chatting to himself in "The Kids Don't Get It" and "The Drop Off"--both of which contain wide-lunged, ringing choruses that will undoubtedly turn into onstage highlights. To quote Radiohead, you'll find "no alarms and no surprises" on World Container, just more of the same blues-affected music from Canada's long-reigning kings of rock. --Denise Sheppard

Custom Reviews:
Possibly the best...HIP...album ever !?!?!
5 out of 5 stars.

WORLD CONTAINER...was released as a special edition CD in late 2006.

Those special edition CDs can only be bought by the Amazon sellers here at Amazon , now! You can buy this version from Amazon , here.

Both versions of this CD are almost exactly the same.

THE HIPs...new CD , could just possibly be the best CD that they have ever made!?!?!

It is certainly as excellent as their older classics...UP TO HERE...ROAD APPLES...FULLY COMPLETELY...and...DAY FOR NIGHT.

In fact , I haven't been this excited about a new...HIP...studio CD since the amazing...PHANTOM POWER...album.

This album is only 42+ minutes long but like many other musical classics it is short and sweet and not overly long.

It only takes a few repeated listenings to love this CD.

A complete CD from beginning to the end with not a bad song in the lot.

Canadian born superstar producer...BOB ROCK [Metallica/Motley Crue]...helped them produced a more focused album with excellent rock anthems like...YER NOT THE OCEAN...THE LONELY END OF THE RINK...FLY...and the smash hit single...IN VIEW.

There is the new sound [for them] of some keyboards on 4 of the songs and even some reggie/rock influence here.

Some of their hardest rock ever can be found in the songs...THE LONELY END OF THE RINK...THE KIDS DON'T GET IT...THE DROP-OFF...LUV [SIC]...all leading up to a fantastic climax at the end of this album with the songs...FAMILY BAND...and the fantastic/emotional sing along song...WORLD CONTAINER.

...the WORLD CONTAINER...

" where all songs , are one song , and that song is DON'T FORGET "

This is a CD with a message and it is...THE HIP's...DARK SIDE OF THE MOON...and/or...ABBEY ROAD...ect!

If you had lost faith in...THE HIP...over their last couple of albums...WORLD CONTAINER...will restore your faith in this legendary Canadian band! It is just that great! One of the best CDs of 2006 and maybe one of...THE HIP's...best ever!?!?!

5 HUGE STARS!!!!!

"One day I'll make some honest rock 'n roll...."
4 out of 5 stars.
...And honest rock 'n roll it is! While The Tragically Hip's last three albums could be described as "spotty" or "uneven" and in my mind their weakest efforts, "World Container" is a return to form. I won't pretend this album is as good as "Up to Here" or "Fully Completely", but it ranks well among their other 1990s output. The sound is raw and clear and the lyrics are engaging. One of the things I like about The Hip is that while their songs don't always immediately grab you on first listen, you're rewarded with memorable rock and roll that stands the test of time (if not the charts) after a few spins of the disc. I thinks it's interesting (and great) that there isn't complete consensus among reviewers here regarding the best songs on this album. My favourites in order are, "Fly", "Family Band", "Yer Not The Ocean", "In View", and "World Container". If you're a Hip fan who has been disappointed in their recent work, "World Container" should restore your faith in Canada's greatest rock group. Buy the album and I'll see you at the concert.

Excuse me...........
5 out of 5 stars.
.........I am having a bit of a hard time writing my review here, as the smoke from my CD player keeps getting in my eyes...

Great, great disc..The Drop Off and The Lonely end of the Rink are the two best rockers...this is certainly their best album in years..the boys have shaken off the lethargy of "Evolution" and moved on with some great new production and freaky guitar sounds..I absolutely love this cd...and I have heard every one of their discs and saw them live twice.

The third classic album from this group. First was Fully Completely, second was Phantom Power.

Move. Now. Go. Buy. Support the quintessential Canadian band.....before Stephen gives the country away....

A class act !
5 out of 5 stars.
Talk about evolution. It just keeps getting better. Buy it!

Tremendous relief
5 out of 5 stars.
Truth is, after IN BETWEEN EVOLUTION I was (sigh) prepared to forget the Hip. It seemed SUCH an uninspired and mediocre retread of previous paths, and the lowest step in a long decline (tho' I'm fond of MUSIC @ WORK, IN VIOLET LIGHT didn't really excite me that much; the band simply seemed to be past their prime and without the grace, sense, or economic security to hang up their skates). If I hadn't managed to get in to see them live (since I never had and they have SUCH a reputation), I probably would never have bought WORLD CONTAINER; and even AFTER having seen them live -- and what a memorable experience THAT was -- I wasn't prepared for anything this GOOD when I bought the disc. Nevermind that the songs that other people are highlighting as faves ("Luv (Sic)," f'rinstance) seem like filler to me -- there's NEVER been a Hip album without a bit of filler on it, so you learn to live with that. A few lesser tunes are easy enough to ignore when so many of the songs are this GREAT. "The Kids Don't Get It," a fave of mine, makes for a bizarre experience to see played live, given that it seems to be Gord addressing his audience and the limits of rock and roll as a means of communication; "You're the Ocean" is right up there with "My Music at Work" as a catchy, finely crafted pop tune; "The Lonely End of the Rink" sounds so GOOD (thanks, Bob!) that I can ignore the fact that I'm not really a hockey fan; and "The Drop Off" is one of the hardest-hitting rock songs I've heard, period, with babbled hysteric lyrical passages of intensity seldom seen outside of punk. "In View," "Family Band," and the title track all stand out, too. WORLD CONTAINER has convinced me that it's safe to go back into the water with the Hip, because to all appearances, the sharks are back. Thanks, guys!
