Predictable
3 out of 5 stars.
Alex Cross was working for the FBI when an unknown man gunned down his wife Maria, in front of him. The killer was never found and the case turned cold. Years later, after Alex left the FBI he became full-time psychologist some times working as a free agent for the FBI. At one point, his former partner John Sampson calls in a favour....

John is tracking Michael Sullivan one of the worst serial rapist and professional killers ever. Sullivan known as "The Butcher" finds his preys among young college and working women and manages to lull them with a false sense of security. After raping them, his trademark is to show photos of mutilated bodies of those who have talked and a scalpel.

When the case reveals a connection to Maria's death, Alex is drawn back into action with the hope of getting justice and finally catching Maria's killer....

This novel is a super quick read with numerous short chapters. The plot is a series of violent incidents featuring the Butcher. Dr. Cross reactions are easily anticipated and the storyline ended abruptly and in a mundane note, a disappointing climax. I found this book interesting but a bit too predictable.

The usual
5 out of 5 stars.
I like rading Patterson's novels and this one was just as all the other ones I have read: nice flow of action, keeping the reader interested until the end. I usually read these books over the weekend (if nothing better comes along). The interesting thing is that a week later I do not remember anything from it. Nothing wrong with that -- Patterson's novels are enterataining and that is all that counts.

Very good!
4 out of 5 stars.
Yet another great thriller by Patterson. I am a big fan of his and have started to contemplate never reading his novels again because the last few have been very disappointing, however this was a worthy read. Full of Patterson-esque twists that will leave you turning the pages until the very end. Worth the time. I recommend it along with Michael Crichton's Next, David DeMello's Dead Scare, and if you are a big Hannibal Lecter fan then Harris' Hannibal Rising.
